Like dancing, singing, drawing, painting or playing an instrument, poetry is a work of art. The words written come from the innermost part of your very being. The message heard or read echoes beyond the pages to those who stumble up on it. Those who stumble up on it are impacted for days to come and as they encounter and share it with others they too are stunned.

With this being true, it is up to you to step out of your comfort zone. It is time to open that book only you alone know exists and take up the papers that are lying around with your drafts of marvelous poems and publish your poetry book this Summer. Here are five important reasons why you should not think about the “what ifs”, but grasp the opportunity that exists:

  1. If you don’t publish your book, your thoughts will die with you.

An article titled, “The 25 Biggest Regrets in Life. What Are Yours?” was published two years ago in Forbes magazine. One of the top ten regrets was not having enough confidence in oneself to chase after one’s dreams. Often people testify in sharing this regret to say they wasted their lives. When your creative thoughts and ideas die with you, no one benefits. Confident or not, take that step to publish your book and see how satisfying it will be in the end.

2. You can impact lives with your words.

Your mind is a powerful place and your thoughts are valuable. As humans, leaning on the words of those we meet or the things we see impacts us. Plus to have your thoughts published means you will make a difference, not just in your life, but in the life of others. You are one step away from making a difference.

3. It will show you’re a professional.

As a writer and poet, one of the best ways to prove your professionalism and level of impact is to publish your book. This shows that your work for you, even when the fun is not a game, but that you are serious about it and that attracts an audience.

4. You can build your platform and brand as an international poet.

On the note of your audience, your book can be published in physical storefronts and online (like Amazon). The greater and more diverse the audience, the greater your platform. You are your brand; your book will assist in highlighting who you are and is a doorway for greater opportunities.

5. You’ll earn money from your writing gift.

One of the most satisfying things is earning money from something you enjoy, whether it is your main or additional stream of income.

The hardest part of anything is to start, because of the “what ifs” and fears, but once you pass that hurdle, the journey of writing or/and publishing your book begins. Take the step this summer, share your gift with the world by publishing your poetry book.
