Your author platform refers to the spheres you are in that allows for you to have an audience base. This speaks to your email list, contacts, social media platforms and face-to-face spaces you are often in. Without an author platform, it will be difficult for you to be known and therefore, will highly likely lead to little or no sale of your book as no one will know about it. Here are three ways you can build your platform for the success of your journey as an author.
- You Want to Gain An Audience
The whole purpose of building an author platform is to gain an audience. This may take a while, but it is better to start and grow slowly than to not start at all. Be strategic about how you go about doing this. You want to ensure that you are consistent in the content you produce for your audience, as well as, ensure that it is worth viewing. Pace yourself. It is better to have a vision and start small and grow on implementing each than to have a vision, start big and becoming overwhelmed with all you have to do at once. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
- Attract Publicists and Potential Investors
No company will sign with someone they have never heard of or seen, not to mention if they have not seen the content you have produced. Also, no investor will invest their money where they don’t believe in a book being promising and reaping great rewards and how can they know of your message if you have not shared it? Believe it or not, the highest of professionals are on varying social media platforms. Publicists and potential investors sometimes intentionally or unintentionally seek out authors to do business with or to invest in.
- Builds Your Confidence As An Author
Creating content, whether written or otherwise for reading or/and speaking, you have to be intentional. You have to be intentional not just about what you have created and when you share it with your platform, but intentional too about evaluating the feedback from your audience. The greater the feedback from your audience, the more confident and satisfied you will become being reassured that you are impacting lives with your message(s) as an author. The more confident you become in your message and story, the more you will believe in it and the more people will believe in you. When people realize you believe in what you are selling, they are more compelled to buy it.
